Chapter 1

THE MEANING OF MIRACLES

The principle of Miracles

You are whole and complete as you are. There is no lack or separation only a misperception of the truth of who you really are. When you atone (you are AT-ONE) you restore the awareness that there is no separation and that your perfect and natural state is DIVINE LOVE. That is the miracle.

Freedom from fear

Miracles represent freedom from fear. Atoning means “undoing”, the undoing of fear is an essential part of the Atonement value of miracles.

When you have become willing to hide nothing, you will not only be willing to enter into communion but will also understand peace and joy.

You are whole and complete. Perfect as you are!

Lack implies that you would be better off in a state somehow different from the one you are in. Until “separation”, which is the meaning of the “fall,” nothing was lacking. There were no needs at all. Needs only arise when you deprive yourself.

A sense of separation from God is the only lack you really need correct. This sense of separation would never have arisen if you had not distorted your perception of truth, and had thus perceived yourself as lacking. Unified needs lead to unified action, because this produces a lack of conflict.

The real purpose of this world is to correct your unbelief. You can never control the effects of fear yourself, because you made fear, and you believe in what you made. In attitude, though not in content, you resemble your creator, who has perfect faith in his creations, because he created them. Belief produces the acceptance of existence. That is why you can believe what no one else thinks is true. It is true for you because it was made by you.

All aspects of fear are untrue because they do not exist at the creative level, and therefore do not exist at all. To whatever extent you are willing to submit your beliefs to this test, to that extent are you perceptions corrected. In sorting out all false from the true, the miracle proceeds along these lines:

You made fear, and believe in what you made.

Perfect love casts out fear

If fear exists,

Then there is not perfect love.

                  But:

Only perfect love exists.

If there is fear,

It produces a state that does not exist.

Revelation is intensely personal and cannot be meaningfully translated. That is why any attempt to describe it in words is impossible. Revelation induces only experience. Miracles, on the other hand, induce action. Revelation is unspeakable because it is a revelation of unspeakable love.
