There comes a point in life when the person you have been can no longer carry you into the life that is waiting to emerge.
The familiar begins to fall away. Old beliefs no longer fit. Relationships change. The roles that once defined you may start to feel restrictive, and the direction ahead may remain hidden.
It can feel as though your life is falling apart.
But what if it is not falling apart?
What if it is transforming?

What Really Happens Inside the Cocoon?
The transformation from caterpillar to butterfly is far more extraordinary than simply growing wings.
When a caterpillar enters its chrysalis, many of the structures associated with its former life begin to break down. Enzymes help dismantle much of the larval tissue, allowing those materials to be reused in the development of the adult butterfly.
However, the caterpillar does not become completely liquid, and the butterfly is not created from nothing. Specialised groups of cells and tissues, commonly described as imaginal discs, were present within the caterpillar before the chrysalis was ever formed.
These structures carry the developmental potential for the future butterfly.
Inside the chrysalis, they grow and organise into wings, legs, eyes and other parts of the adult body. The substance of the caterpillar’s old form becomes nourishment for something entirely new.
The ending and the beginning are happening in the same place.
The caterpillar cannot remain as it was and become the butterfly at the same time.

The Imaginal Cells Within Us
Imaginal cells offer a powerful metaphor for spiritual transformation.
Within each of us, there are quiet inner promptings that seem to know who we are becoming before our conscious mind understands.
They may appear as a longing for change, a new idea, an unexpected truth, a feeling that something is missing or a growing inability to continue living in the same way.
At first, these emerging aspects of the SELF may feel unfamiliar or disruptive.
The old identity wants to preserve what it knows. It may resist change, even when the familiar has become painful. The nervous system often associates familiarity with safety, so it can lead us back toward established patterns, relationships and behaviours.
The new self may initially feel foreign simply because it has not yet become familiar.
Like the imaginal cells within the caterpillar, these emerging parts contain the possibility of a new way of being.
When they begin to connect, a different inner structure can form.
A new vision.
A new direction.
A new relationship with the SELF.
The Space Between Who You Were and Who You Are Becoming
Transformation can be uncomfortable because it requires us to enter a space where the old form is dissolving but the new form is not yet complete.
This is the cocoon stage of human transformation.
You may feel confused, tired, emotional or withdrawn. Your usual sources of certainty may no longer provide comfort. You may question your identity, purpose, relationships or direction.
There can be grief in this process.
Even when we are releasing something that no longer serves us, it may have once helped us survive. It may have offered protection, belonging, certainty or a sense of control.
Transformation does not ask us to shame the person we once were.
It asks us to honour that version of ourselves, understand what it carried and allow it to become nourishment for what comes next.
Nothing is wasted.
The lessons, pain, courage, mistakes and experiences of the past can all be integrated into the wisdom of the emerging SELF.

When the Old Story Begins to Dissolve
We often build our identity around stories.
I am the strong one.
I must keep everyone happy.
I cannot trust anyone.
I am not enough.
I have to struggle.
It is not safe to be seen.
These stories can become embedded in our thoughts, emotions and physical patterns. The body may respond through tension, protective bracing, restricted breathing, exhaustion or a constant state of alertness.
When transformation begins, these stories may rise to the surface.
This does not necessarily mean that something has gone wrong. It may mean that what has been held beneath the surface is ready to be witnessed, understood and released.
Healing is not always about adding more.
Sometimes it is about allowing the structures that no longer reflect our truth to soften and dissolve.
You Do Not Have to Force the Butterfly
A butterfly cannot be pulled from its chrysalis before it is ready.
The struggle to emerge is part of the process. It supports the butterfly’s development and prepares it for flight.
Our transformation also has its own timing.
We cannot always think our way into a new state of being. We cannot force ourselves to heal according to someone else’s timetable. There are times when the most powerful action is to become still, listen inwardly and allow the next step to reveal itself.
Transformation requires trust.
Trust that the discomfort has something to teach us.
Trust that uncertainty does not mean failure.
Trust that the deeper SELF may understand the direction even when the conscious mind cannot yet see it.
This is not passive waiting. It is an active relationship with the process.
We can support it by caring for the body, regulating the nervous system, questioning the stories we have accepted as truth and creating space for our inner wisdom to be heard.

Becoming the Butterfly
Spiritual transformation is not about becoming someone more acceptable, impressive or spiritually perfect.
It is about becoming more fully yourself.
It is the release of the conditioning, roles and protective identities that have obscured your authentic nature.
The butterfly does not look back at the caterpillar with shame. The caterpillar was not a mistake. It was a necessary expression of one stage of life.
The same is true for you.
Who you have been brought you here.
Who you are becoming is already taking shape within you.
Perhaps the confusion is not evidence that you are lost.
Perhaps the restlessness is not a problem that needs to be silenced.
Perhaps the old life is becoming uncomfortable because your wings are beginning to form.
An Invitation to Reconnect With Yourself
If you are moving through change, feeling disconnected from yourself or sensing that an old chapter of your life is ending, you do not have to navigate the process alone.
My sessions provide a supportive space to slow down, reconnect with your body and explore the deeper patterns, emotions and stories that may be ready to shift.
Together, we can listen to what your body is communicating, create space around what has been held and support you in reconnecting with your inner wisdom and highest awakened SELF.
Appointments are available in Midland and Collie, as well as by phone or online.

Your transformation may have already begun.
The butterfly has always existed within the caterpillar, not as a finished form, but as a possibility waiting for the right conditions to emerge.
