asKING QUESTIONS… Turning Inward

Most of us are handed a very loud definition of success from the moment we can walk. Get good marks at school. Land a solid job. Buy your own home. Climb the corporate ladder. Rack up the wins – preferably the kind you can photograph, post, and measure in dollars, square metres, or shiny trophies. Success, we’re told, is out there. It’s tangible. Visible. Impressive to others.

But what if that version is incomplete?

What if real success has almost nothing to do with the external world – and everything to do with the inner one?

The Question That Changes Everything

Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:

“What does success look like when no one else is watching?”

This single question shifts the spotlight from achievement to alignment. From accumulation to remembrance. From chasing more to becoming whole.

Success as Inner Mastery

Imagine redefining success through these lenses:

  • Peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances
  • Joy as your default state
  • Freedom in your own mind
  • Deep self-knowing
  • Living your unique expression

Success, from this view, becomes less about doing and more about being. Less about arriving and more about how fully you inhabit each moment.

Specific Practices to Cultivate Inner Success

Here are powerful, practical tools you can begin today. These are not one-size-fits-all rituals – they are invitations to reconnect with your inner world. Choose one or two that resonate and practice them consistently for 21 days. Watch how your definition of success naturally expands.

1. The Morning Inner Check-In (5 -10 minutes) Before reaching for your phone, sit upright, place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Ask gently:

  • “How am I feeling in my body right now?”
  • “What do I need today to feel successful on the inside?”
  • “How can I support myself today?”

Listen. The answers are usually simple: more water, a walk in nature, saying no to something, or speaking kindly to yourself. This practice builds self-trust and sets the tone for the day from the inside out.

2. Success Redefinition Journaling Each evening, answer these three questions in your journal:

  • What felt like success today, even if no one else would notice?
  • Where did I experience moments of peace, joy, or presence?
  • Where did I abandon myself to meet external expectations?

Over time, you’ll train your mind to notice and celebrate inner wins. This rewires the brain away from lack and comparison toward gratitude and sufficiency.

3. Breathwork for Inner Stability (Box Breathing) When external chaos arises, use this simple technique: Inhale for 4 counts → Hold for 4 → Exhale for 4 → Hold for 4. Repeat 6 – 10 rounds.

As you breathe, silently affirm: “I am safe. I am enough. Success is my inner state.” This practice quickly returns you to centre and reminds you that true success cannot be taken away by circumstances.

4. The “Enoughness” Mirror Practice Stand in front of a mirror, look into your own eyes and speak aloud: “I am already successful because I am here, growing, and willing to know myself.” Add one thing you genuinely appreciate about your inner qualities (courage, kindness, resilience, curiosity, etc.).

Do this daily for two weeks. Many clients report a profound softening and reduction in the need for external validation.

5. Nature Immersion & Sensory Presence Once a week, spend 30–60 minutes in nature with no agenda. Put your phone away. Use all your senses:

  • What do you see, hear, smell, feel?
  • Where do you notice beauty or aliveness?

This practice dissolves the illusion of separation and reconnects you with the joy of simply being. Many people experience their clearest insights and deepest peace here.

6. Weekly Inner Success Review At the end of each week, instead of reviewing your to-do list or bank balance, review:

  • How aligned was I with my values?
  • How often did I choose peace over pressure?
  • What did I learn about myself?

Celebrate these quietly – light a candle, make a cup of tea, or write yourself a short love note.

From Outer Chase to Inner Homecoming

The beautiful paradox is this: when you cultivate success in the inner world – presence, emotional regulation, self-love, clarity – the outer world often begins to reflect it more effortlessly. Opportunities arise. Relationships deepen. Resources flow. Not because you’re hustling harder, but because you’re vibrating from a different frequency.

You stop abandoning yourself. You start trusting your inner guidance. You remember you are not here to merely survive or impress – you are here to experience, to grow, to love, and to express the unique spark of consciousness that is you.

That, to me, is the highest form of success.

Reflection to close:

Success isn’t a destination you reach one day when you’ve ticked enough boxes. It’s a way of walking through life – rooted, present, and at home within yourself.

So tell me, beautiful soul…
