Outside the Federal Court in Sydney, media crews gathered in force.
Channel 9. Channel 10. Channel 7. Sky News.
Cameras lined up. Microphones ready.
But what was reported… and what was ignored… were two very different things.
What They Came For
The media were there for Kyle Sandilands.
A personality story. A contract issue. Something easy to package, easy to broadcast, easy for the public to consume.
That became the focus.
That became the headline.
What They Ignored
At the exact same time, in the exact same place, a matter was being heard that goes far beyond one individual.
Dr Beverly Peers and Rod Culleton were standing in the Federal Court on a constitutional issue.
A matter involving:
- jurisdiction
- rights
- access to justice
Issues that affect every Australian.
And yet, not one of the major networks reported on it.
The Moment That Didn’t Make the News
During questioning, Kyle Sandilands made a statement that should have been widely reported.
He said he felt misled and told the media that Jackie O’s husband was expreiencing heart issues (Myocarditis perhaps?)
He expressed regret about taking the COVID injection.
He expressed regret about promoting it.
That moment happened.
It was recorded.
But it wasn’t reported.
Not by 9.
Not by 10.
Not by 7.
The closest mention came from Sky News Australia, but even then, the focus shifted to the presence of so-called “anti-vaxxers,” not what was actually said. Does that now make Kyle an “anti-vaxxer?”.
Two Stories. One Decision
On one side:
A media personality and a contract dispute.
On the other:
A constitutional matter before the Federal Court.
One was amplified.
The other was ignored.
That wasn’t an accident.
That was a decision.
Who Owns the Media?
When you step back, Australia’s media landscape is not as diverse as it appears.
A small number of companies dominate the majority of what Australians see, hear, and read:
- News Corp Australia – owned by the Murdoch family
- Nine Entertainment
- Seven West Media – associated with Kerry Stokes
- Network 10 – owned by Paramount (United States)
- Sky News Australia – owned by News Corp Australia
Why That Matters
When multiple networks are present at the same event…
And they all overlook the same story…
You have to ask why.
Because the role of the media is not just to report what is easy.
It is to report what is important.
And when:
- admissions are not reported
- constitutional matters are ignored
- public attention is directed elsewhere
It raises serious questions about priorities.
The Real Story
The real story isn’t just what happened outside the court.
It’s what didn’t get shown.
It’s the gap between:
What was said
and what was reported
What affects individuals
and what affects the nation
What gets attention
and what gets silence
The Question
If the cameras were there…
