If Digital ID Is Enforced on 10 December, It’s Time for a Peaceful Exit

Australia now stands at a crossroads.

On 10 December, major online platforms may begin enforcing a new requirement:

Digital identification or facial recognition checks to prove you are over 16.

This is not child protection. This is not safety. This is not about preventing harm.

This is compulsory digital identity by stealth – imposed through private corporations rather than Parliament, under the cover of an “age verification” policy that forces adults to hand over identifying data just to be allowed to speak, read, create, or participate online.

So today, I’m making a public announcement.

If Digital ID Goes Live on 10 December, I Invite Every Australian to Exit the Platforms That Enforce It.

Immediately!

A mass, peaceful, economic withdrawal is the only message Big Tech understands.

Because without users, they have no product.
Without your identity, they have no power.
Without your compliance, the model collapses.

This is not a boycott born of anger – it is a boundary born of necessity.

If a platform requires digital identification or facial recognition just to exist online, then it is no longer a platform.
It is an identity checkpoint.

And Australians should not comply with digital checkpoints to access what is, in truth, the modern public square.

PLATFORMS THAT HAVE PUBLICLY INDICATED THEY MAY REQUIRE AGE ID (16+)

(Current as of December)

These companies have either confirmed, signalled, or prepared for the rollout of age-identification tools using third-party providers or in-house facial algorithms:

• Meta (Facebook)
• Instagram
• WhatsApp (less communication, more verification around access and age gating)
• TikTok
• Google Services (including YouTube)
• Snapchat
• X (Twitter) – exploring age verification partnerships
• Twitch – “Strict enforcement” flagged
• Discord – testing age-verification models

These platforms have the infrastructure ready.
Many have already tested it overseas.
They will comply unless the public refuses.

PLATFORMS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE DIGITAL AGE ID (for now)

These remain open and do not require digital identification to prove age:

• Telegram
• Signal
• Proton Mail / Proton Pass / Proton Drive
• Element / Matrix
• Substack
• Mastodon (Fediverse)
• Rumble
• Odysee
• Locals
• Bitchute
• MeWe

These platforms demonstrate what is still possible:
online spaces that respect privacy, autonomy, and digital sovereignty.

WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW (Before the 10th)

If digital ID rolls out on 10 December, the most powerful and peaceful response is simple:

Do not log in.

Do not verify.
Do not comply.

Just step back.

If enough Australians refuse, the policy collapses under its own weight.

Here is how to prepare now, while you still control your data and your digital identity:

1. Export your data

Download your photos, videos, messages, contacts, group history, and account archives from any platform you may leave.
Take your digital life with you – don’t leave it behind.

2. Create alternative accounts elsewhere

Even if you don’t use them yet, open accounts on privacy-respecting platforms that do not require digital identification.
Think of it as securing your new digital home before you need to move into it.

3. Set up your network

Let your community know where to find you if digital ID becomes mandatory.

Friends
Family
Clients
Community groups
Businesses
Schools
Committees

When your network moves together, no one gets left behind.

4. Turn off auto-renew advertising or subscriptions

If you run ads on Meta, Google, YouTube or TikTok – prepare to pause them.

Funding a platform that is forcing identity verification only strengthens the system you’re opposing.

5. Prepare to walk – peacefully and decisively

Economic non-compliance is lawful. It is powerful. And it removes the oxygen that sustains the model.

You don’t need to fight. You simply need to not log in.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Once you hand over your digital identification:

• you cannot take it back
• you cannot revoke it
• you cannot control how it will be used
• you cannot undo the database it enters
• you cannot prevent secondary or future uses of that data

And the Online Safety Act – combined with private corporate enforcement – gives the Commonwealth and Silicon Valley an unprecedented bypass of Australian rights, democratic norms, and constitutional safeguards.

Your identity is not a subscription service.

Your face, your movement, your political expression, and your online participation should not require state-sanctioned permission slips.

A FINAL WORD

I will not pre-empt any legal developments or formal announcements.

But I will say this:

If digital ID enforcement begins on the 10th, Australians have one simple, peaceful, and powerful remedy: Leave. Withdraw. Do not comply.

Not out of fear –
Out of principle.
Out of sovereignty.
Out of love for your own autonomy and the future of this country.

The digital public square belongs to the people – not to a government-mandated identification regime.

Stand your ground.

Leave the platforms that demand your identity.
Support the platforms that do not.
And protect your digital freedom while we still have the choice.
