The Argument Inside Your Head
Have you ever caught yourself arguing with yourself?
One voice says “Do it.”
Another voice says “Don’t.”
One part of you feels excited.
Another part feels afraid.
One part wants to walk away.
Another part insists on holding on.
Most people assume this means something is wrong with them.
But what if the opposite is true?
What if those voices are not signs of confusion, but different parts of your inner intelligence trying to guide you?
For most of my life I have been fascinated by the way our internal world shapes our external reality. Over a decade ago, while developing the Inner Compass system, I began exploring something I had noticed repeatedly in people – including myself.
Whenever someone experienced a strong emotional reaction, it was rarely their whole self reacting.
It was usually one part of them speaking louder than the rest.
This insight led to the creation of a framework I now call the Karma Council – a map of the different aspects of the self that influence our thoughts, emotions and behaviour.
From this work the Inner Compass Inner Conflict Resolution Technique was born.
Rather than trying to silence inner conflict, the technique allows you to listen to the voices within you, understand what they need, and restore balance between them.
Because when the different parts of you begin working together instead of against each other, something remarkable happens.
Clarity returns.
Emotion settles.
And the path forward becomes obvious.
When Two Parts of You Disagree
Have you ever noticed how sometimes you can feel pulled in two completely different directions?
One part of you wants to move forward.
Another part wants to stay safe.
One part of you wants to speak up.
Another part says, “Don’t rock the boat.”
One part wants change.
Another part whispers, “What if it goes wrong?”
This experience is so common that many people simply describe it as being in two minds.
But what if that inner tension isn’t confusion at all?
What if it is multiple aspects of your inner self trying to be heard at the same time?
For most of my life I have been fascinated by the way our inner world shapes our outer experience. Over a decade ago, while developing the Inner Compass® system, I began exploring a simple but powerful question:
What if inner conflict is not something to suppress… but something to listen to?
From that exploration emerged a process I now call the Inner Compass Inner Conflict Resolution Technique.
It is a practical method for identifying which aspects of yourself are speaking, allowing them to be heard, and bringing them back into balance.
Rather than fighting with yourself, you begin to understand the council within you.
And once the conversation changes, the conflict dissolves.

The Inner Compass Inner Conflict Resolution Technique
Meeting the Voices Within
Most people believe that when they feel conflicted, something is wrong with them.
They might say things like:
- “Part of me wants to do it… but another part of me doesn’t.”
- “I know what I should do, but I just can’t seem to do it.”
- “I feel like I’m fighting with myself.”
And in truth… they are.
But that doesn’t mean they are broken.
It simply means that different aspects of themselves are trying to be heard.
Over a decade ago, while developing the Inner Compass® system, I began exploring a simple but profound idea:
What if inner conflict is not a problem to suppress…
but a conversation waiting to happen?
From that exploration the Inner Compass Inner Conflict Resolution Technique was born.

The Karma Council: Your Inner Team
Within the Inner Compass framework, every person contains multiple inner aspects.
These aspects form what I call the Karma Council.
Think of it as a council of voices within your psyche, each representing a different energy, instinct, or life role.
The council includes sixteen spokes:
- The Inner Child
- The Inner Teenager
- The Creative
- The Problem Solver
- The Motivator
- The Lover
- The Spiritual Seeker
- The Enricher
- The Wise One
- The Guardian of Karma
- The Free Spirit
- The Philanthropist
- The Nurturer
- The Builder
- The Strong Protector
- The Manifestor
At the centre of the wheel sits The Collective – the unified self.
Each spoke carries both positive qualities and shadow expressions.
For example:
The Problem Solver can be analytical, organised and practical…
but when out of balance it can become judgemental, overwhelmed or sceptical.
The Lover can be open-hearted, affectionate and deeply connected…
yet when wounded it may express shame, insecurity or emotional withdrawal.
The goal is not to eliminate any of these aspects.
The goal is integration.
Why Inner Conflict Happens
When a person reacts strongly to a situation, it is rarely their whole self responding.
Usually it is one spoke of the wheel reacting.
Perhaps:
- The Inner Child feels rejected
- The Protector feels threatened
- The Motivator feels frustrated
- The Lover feels hurt
When that happens, the nervous system becomes reactive.
Emotion floods the body. Logic disappears. And people often say things they later regret.
The Inner Compass technique recognises that a reactive emotion simply means a part of us is out of balance and wants to be heard.

The Karma Call
The Inner Conflict Resolution process is surprisingly simple.
It follows four key stages known as The Karma Call.
K.A.R.M.A.
Keep All Reactive eMotions Away
Then move through four steps.
Connect
First connect with the feeling, story, or emotional reaction that is present.
Instead of pushing it away, you bring awareness to it.
Often the body holds the key.
Crossing arms and legs over the midline helps activate communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
This creates the neurological conditions for integration.
Address
Next you allow the different aspects of yourself to have their say.
You identify which spoke of the Karma Council is reacting.
Perhaps the Inner Teenager feels misunderstood.
Perhaps the Protector feels the need to defend.
Rather than silencing these voices, you allow them to speak.
Listen
This is where the real shift happens.
When each aspect is heard, the emotional charge begins to dissolve.
Inner dialogue replaces inner conflict.
Often people realise that every part of them is trying to serve a purpose.
Even the difficult voices are simply trying to protect something deeper.
Let Go
People often notice:
Once the underlying message has been heard, the body naturally shifts.
- a deep breath
- a sense of calm
- a lightness in the chest
- clarity about what to do next
This is the moment when the conflict dissolves. Not through force. But through integration.

The Soul Map
To assist this process I created the Inner Compass Soul Map, a visual representation of the Karma Council.
It allows practitioners and clients to see which aspects are involved in a conflict and explore how they relate to one another.
Sometimes only one spoke is activated.
Other times two aspects are arguing with each other.
The Soul Map helps reveal the conversation.
And once the conversation becomes visible, resolution becomes possible.

Karma and the DNA Pattern
The Inner Compass technique also recognises something deeper.
Many of our reactions are not simply personal.
They are patterns carried through family history, conditioning and past experiences.
In this sense, karma is not punishment.
It is simply cause and effect stored in memory.
- Within our biology.
- Within our nervous system.
- Within our emotional patterns.
When we resolve inner conflict, we interrupt those patterns.
We choose awareness instead of reaction.
And in doing so we change the trajectory of our path forward.

Coming Home to Yourself
Inner peace is not the absence of conflict.
It is the ability to listen to yourself fully.
The Inner Compass Inner Conflict Resolution Technique provides a pathway to do exactly that.
- To hear the voices within.
- To understand them.
- And to bring them back into harmony.
Because when the council is aligned and the compass always points home.

An Invitation
Within each of us exists an inner council.
Different parts of the self hold memories, emotions, instincts, and wisdom gathered through the journey of life.
These inner voices often appear when we feel torn between choices, repeating patterns, or seeking deeper understanding of our path. Rather than being a problem to silence, they can become a source of insight when we learn to listen.
The Karma Council is a way of recognising these parts of ourselves and bringing them into dialogue. When each voice is acknowledged, the deeper pattern beneath our experiences can begin to reveal itself.
Through awareness, reflection, and energetic alignment, inner conflict can transform into clarity. What once felt fragmented begins to reorganise into a more coherent sense of self.
You are invited to explore this process and reconnect with the wisdom that already lives within you.
